  3. coastal rivers
  4. Rivers of the Troughs region from inland drains

The rivers originating from the Himalayas

The rivers originating from the Himalayas are formed by the melting of ice and glaciers, so they have a continuous flow throughout the year. During the monsoon month, the Himalayan region receives a lot of rainfall, and rivers are dependent on rainfall, so their volume fluctuates. Many of them are temporary. The coastal rivers, especially on the west coast, are short in length and have a limited catchment area. Most of them are temporary. There are some rivers in the inland Nala Droni region of western Rajasthan. Most of them are temporary in nature. The main system of the river originating from Himachal is similar to the system of the Indus, Ganga, Brahmaputra, and Meghna rivers.

Indus river

The Great of  The World is one of the rivers, that originates near Mansarovar in Tibet and flows through India, and then merges through Pakistan and finally into the Arabian Sea near Karachi. Among its tributaries flowing in the Indian territory are the Sutlej (originating from Tibbarat), Vyasa, Ravi, Chenab, and Jhelum.

the river Ganga or Gange

The Brahmaputra Meghna is another important system whose sub-basin areas are in Bhagirathi and Alaknanda, which together form the Ganga at Devprayag. It flows through Uttaranchal, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and West Bengal. Under the hills of Rajmahal, the Bhagirathi river, which used to be the main river in the olden times, originates while the Padma flows eastwards and enters Bangladesh.

Brahmaputra

The Brahmaputra originates from Tibet, where it is called The Tsangpo, and enters Arunachal Pradesh in India it covers a very long distance, here it is called Dihang. Near Pasi Ghat, Debang and Lohit merge with the Brahmaputra river and this combined river flows through the whole of Assam into a narrow valley. It enters Bangladesh downstream of Ghuri.
